Northeast Singapore is composed of a medley of supper spots, heartland enclaves, and a small airport that was once a military base. Serangoon Road forms the umbilical cord that connects the Northeast to Central Singapore, passing through Little India and becoming a home to early Indian settlers on the island. Hougang, the opposition party’s stronghold, has historically housed Teochew Chinese settlers and many pig farms. Today, the only pigs in the Northeast reside in the wild forests surrounding Sengkang and Punggol, usually out of sight from the long stretch of highways popular among night cyclists.
